Assisted Living Facilities in Terrell Hills TX

Assisted Living Facilities in Terrell Hills TXFor a while now you’ve noticed your mother having more and more difficulty maintaining her home, getting things done, and even staying safe. She’s begun calling on you more and more frequently lately, and with all the responsibilities you have going on in your life, you just don’t have time to run over there every single moment she needs help.

You know it’s time for her to consider assisted living, or at least the prospect of a different living situation. Yet, anytime you bring it up, she dismisses your concerns and says she’s fine.

So why won’t she listen?

There could be any number of reasons why your mother has no interest or even outright refuses to listen to you regarding assisted living, home care, or other senior care options. For one, she might be concerned that moving into an assisted living facility means giving up her own independence.

That can be a difficult concept for anyone to even consider, especially when they’ve been living on their own and enjoyed their independence for most of their adult life.

She might have certain misconceptions or preconceived notions about assisted-living that are difficult to get around. She may associate assisted living with nursing home care, not realizing there’s a significant difference between the two.

How to get past this roadblock.

If you want to get around this particular roadblock and help encourage your mother to at least consider the prospect of assisted-living, you need to understand her thoughts and notions about it.

Begin asking questions about her perceptions of it.

You might want to consider asking her what she thinks about assisted-living. She may say, “That’s just the place for old people to go and die.” As crass and straightforward as that statement can be, it may very well be her impression of it.

She might see it as nothing more than a fancy nursing home. That’s where you can begin shaping her interpretation of it a bit differently.

Before you can do that, though, you need to learn as much as possible about assisted living. You need to visit a few facilities, find out the types of activities they have going on there, and get an overall impression of what some of the elderly residents feel about it.

Check out the dining facility, visit the entertainment room, and even see if they have an exercise facility on campus.
The more you know about assisted living, the easier it’s going to be for you to alter your mother’s perception and, ultimately, get her at least thinking more seriously about it for herself.
